Antioch Wizards (106-56) vs Lakewood Pointed Sticks (91-71) Pocono Pines Buffalo Wings (97-65) vs Dresden Blacks (102-60)
Game 1 - Lakewood at Antioch
Roger Clemens (23-5) vs
David Cone (8-6)

It wasn't vintage Clemens, as he walked 5 and allowed 5 hits in 5 innings, but the Antioch bullpen covered well and the Wizards won the opener 5-0. Solo homers by Todd Helton in the 2nd, Stan Javier in the 3rd, and Alex Rodriguez in the 6th provided the offense.

Game 2 - Lakewood at Antioch
Andy Pettitte (16-8) vs Tim Wakefield
(8-9)

Lakewood won their first playoff game ever by taking a slim lead and holding on for dear life. Tim Wakefield scattered 6 hits over 5 innings and 4 relievers each threw an inning. Todd Helton homered, doubled twice, and just missed a 3RHR  for the losers. Lakewood played little ball and got clutch hits from Jeff Reboulet, Ben Davis, and Shawon Dunston. Teams tied going back to Lakewood for the Sticks' ace Brad Penny.

Game 3 - Antioch at Lakewood
Brad Penny (19-5)  vs Russ Ortiz (17-8
)

Just like they planned it on the drawing board. Sticks up 3-0 behind Penny, with HRs from Abreu and McGriff. Fikac relieves in the 7th after Penny tires on 114 pitches, and gets A-Rod and Helton. Fox closes out the 8th, and Flash Gordon on for the save. But Gordon gets rocked. Walk, HBP, single walk to the middle of the order. A-Rod strikes out, but Helton ties it with a 2 run double. One out later Paquette doubles home two and Lakewood trails 5-3. A rally with two outs in the 9th cuts the lead to 5-4 as Schneider doubles home Spivey with Dunston moving to 3rd, but Cameron flies to left as Antioch wins a most improbable game.

Game 4 - Antioch at Lakewood
Jason Johnson (8-13) vs Jason Marquis (6-7)

Tim Salmon and Rusty Greer trade 2R doubles in the first, and the score was 3-2 Antioch from the end of 1 to the end of 7. Lakewood didn't get close to scoring in that period; they didn't manage another runner past first. Antioch didn't even get a hit. When play resumed in the 8th, Doug Mirabelli got an RBI single off of John Rocker, and an error brought home another insurance run in the 9th. Final, 5-2 for Antioch and a 3-1 lead.

Game 5 - Antioch at Lakewood
Clemens vs Cone

Same matchup of veterans as in game 1, but this time the Sticks were able to break through against Raja. And it was David Cone's bat who drove in the first run in the four run second inning, when Lakewood put together 4 singles and 2 walks after two were out. Cone also added a sac fly in the 3rd to cap the Sticks' scoring. With the Sticks in the clubhouse with six runs, Antioch left 10 on base. Cone struck out 10 in 6.2 innings, but Fikac got pinchhitter Tim Salmons in the 7th with two outs and the bases loaded. Fox came in to get two outs with two on in the 8th, and John Rocker loaded the bases in the ninth, forcing Eric Gagne to come on to get Chris Singleton to end the game. Back to Antioch with the Wizards up 3-2.

Game 6 - Lakewood at Antioch
Andy Pettitte vs Tim Wakefield

Rematch of game 2, but the Sticks just had a bad game. Only one hit, three errors, as Antioch faced only one more than the minimum in a 9-1 rout. MVP was Todd Helton, .346/3/9 7 runs scored with hits in clutch situations.

Game 1 - Dresden at Pocono Pines
Shawn Chacon (14-8)  vs Mike Mussina  (20-8)

Mike Mussina had a strong outing, as only an early Edgar Martinez home run stood between him and a shutout performance.

Game 2 - Dresden at Pocono Pines
Brad Radke (12-9) vs Roy Halladay (10-4)

Pocono opened up a 5-1 lead off Radke after two, but Blacks fought back in the next inning starting with Manny Ramirez's homer and capped by Tony Batista's two run shot. Poor Dresden fielding allowed Pocono to tie and then go ahead in the middle innings, but Dresden battled back, taking the lead when David Bell walked off Escobar with the bases loaded. David Weathers and Jeff Zimmerman went the last three innings without allowing a hit,  tying the series at 1 game each.

Game 3 - Pocono Pines at Dresden
Scott Schoeneweiss (11-4) vs Jarrod Washburn (11-13)

Two run homers by Grudzielanek and Javy Lopez opened up a 4 run lead for Schoenweiss, who sailed through the lineup the first time through. Suddenly he lost control in the 4th, walking three and hitting a batter. Although a DP helped him come out unscathed, he wasn't as lucky in the 5th when three walks and a hit batsman combined withTony Gwynn's hit helped Dresden draw within 4-3. In the 7th, Matt Ginter walked Manny Ramirez with a base open to face Edgar Martinez. Edgar homered, and the Blacks won 7-5.

Game 4 - Pocono Pines at Dresden
Mussina vs Kevin Millwood (10-5)

Mussina, on three days rest, allowed RBI singles to Charles Johnson in the 2nd and Larry Walker in the 3rd, but then got creamed in the 4th. Willis Roberts and Brian Tollberg fared little better. By the time the dust had settled it was 10-0; meanwhile, Kevin Millwood allowed just 3 hits through 7 innings. Dresden relief had some rough moments making the score seem closer than the game really was. 3 games to 1 for Dresden.

Blacks came from behind with a 6 run 6th inning, erasing Barry Bonds' two run shot in the top of the inning. Ramirez tied it with an RBI single, David Bell's sac fly was the go ahead hit, and then Carlos Pena tripled with the bases loaded. Dresden advances 4 games to 1.MVP to Edgar Martinez, who had clutch htis throughout, but most notably the three run shot in game 3.
