Game 1 Kiev at Nashua
Randy Johnson vs Curt Schilling

Both starters were strong, allowing only 4 hits each over the first six innings. Nashua held a 2-1 lead, thanks to Keith Ginter and Eli Marrero, not David Ortiz and Barry Bonds. When Nashua lifted Schilling to start the 7th, it nearly backfired. J.C.Romero and Ray King were poor, an error and a passed ball added fuel, and pinchhitter Gary Matthews struck the match with a bases clearing double to make it 4-2. However, Kiev's middle relief was worse. A couple of doubles and an intentional walk to Bonds brought about Jerry Hairston after some cat and mouse, he singled, and Juan Rivera deposited a three run homer. With a 7-5 lead, Nashua's bullpen closed it out.

Game 2 Kiev at Nashua
Woody Williams vs Pedro Martinez

Both starters were blown to bits. Williams allowed 9 runs in 2.1 innings; it took only 4.1 innings for Pedro to catch up to him. Adam Dunn hit a 3RHR for Kiev in the first; Dustin Mohr answered with a 2RHR in first, Nashua got to 9-4 after 3. But reliever Glendon Rusch hit a 2RHR in the fourth, and squeezed home a run in the 5th to tie it. Kiev tried to take the lead in the inning, but JD Drew gunned down the goahead run. After that, quiet. Ramiro Mendoza struck out Kelly Stinnett pinchhitting in the 6th with the bases loaded, but that was the best excuse for a rally for the next 7 innings. Finally, Ortiz homered in the bottom of the 14th with one on, and Nashua took a 2-0 series lead.

Game 3 Nashua at Kiev
Al Leiter vs Johan Santana

Needing a win, Santana delivered a masterful performance. He retired the first 13 in a row, and carried a no hitter into the 9th. Leiter pitched well also, but an RBI double in the 3rd by Miguel Olivo meant that Santana was pitching with a 1-0 lead most of the way. In the 9th, Eric Young broke up the no hitter with one out in the ninth, another out later Bonds batted and singled, and when Matthews bobbled the ball it was runners on 2nd and 3rd. Santana chose to walk Marrero and pitch to the lefty Drew, and Drew popped up, and Kiev escaped with a 1-0 win.

Game 4 Nashua at Kiev
Orlando Hernandez vs Wilson Alvarez

Another game where the starters did not distinguish themselves. Marrero's 3RHR in the 3rd gave Nashua a 4-1 lead, but a sac fly and three straight RBI singles in the bottom of the inning gave Kiev a 5-4 lead. That didn't last long, as Marrero doubled home the tying run and Jerry Hairston singled home two more. It stayed 7-5 deep into the game, when the Kiev bullpen finally broke down.

Game 5 Nashua at Kiev
Curt Schilling vs Randy Johnson

Somewhat of an anticlimax, Nashua scored four in the first and weren't seriously challenged. Frankie Menechino hit a 2RHR in the 2nd, but after that, Schilling retired 13 in a row. By then, it was 10-2 and Nashua went on to win their first World Series.

Series stuff: MVP: Nashua primarily used their LH lineup, which resulted in a lot of Eli Marrero appearances, but it also meant that guys like Nomar Garciaparra (5-6 on the series) and David Ortiz (8-16) were there to punish the relievers when they came in. Marrero led the team in RBIs. Overall, Nashua hit .315/.418/.517 as a team. On the Kiev side, only David Newhan was consistent on offense, but didn't manage an extra base hit. Nashua's pitching was strong, led by Schilling's 15 innings of 8 hit ball. Only a quick hook in game one prevented him from winning 2, and he gets the MVP.

Nashua's final two series they went 8-2, scoring 78 runs and giving up 37. It was the close Dresden series, which hinged on a couple of late homers, that gave the champs their biggest scare.
