Washington vs Cambridge Seoul vs Scottsdale
Game 1 - Cambridge at Washington
Javier Vazquez (13-12,1-0) vs Josh Beckett (19-9,0-0)

Beckett allowed 5 hits over 7.2 scoreless innings as Washington won easily, 6-0. After 3 batters off Vazquez, it was 3-0 Grays thanks to a Jason Bay blast. The Grays loaded the bases in the 3rd and Jose Reyes doubled home two to make it 5-0. Though Vazquez settled down after that, 5 runs was a distant dream.

Game 2 - Cambridge at Washington
Tim Hudson (10-12,1-0) vs David Bush (10-12,0-0)

Bush was skipped over in the Division Series, but threw a pretty good outing in Game 2. Hudson was better though and Cambridge led 2-1 when Andruw Jones hit his 2nd home run in the 6th. Berkman led off the 8th for Washington, and Cambridge tried Trever Miller to face McCann. Washington countered with Jeff Cirillo, whose single to left center put runners at the corners. Beltran's nubber ground ball scored the tying run and Cambridge went to Cla Meredith to hold the tie. Bay struck out and Reyes was walked to get to Russ Branyan. The three true outcomes man hit an untrue single up the middle, scoring Cirillo, Reyes scoring on Jones' errant throw.

Game 3 - Washington at Cambridge
Roy Halladay (15-5,2-0) vs Brett Myers (13-10,0-0)

Hits were at a premium on both sides. Both catchers (Brian McCann and Victor Martinez) doubled home runs in the first, and David Wright singled home an unearned run in the 5th to even things up after Ensberg's 4th inning homer. McCann homered in the 6th. Cambridge again might have tied due to the Washington defense, but Andruw Jones hit into a DP with 2 on and non out in the 6th. In the 8th, Cambridge got 2 on on an infield single and an error, but Martinex killed the rally hitting into a DP. Washington leads 3-0.

Game 4 - Washington at Cambridge
John Lackey (19-8,1-0) vs Nate Robertson (12-8,0-0)

Robertson was skipped over in the Division series, and he showed why, allowing 3 hits, 3 walks, and 3 runs by the third inning. Cha Baek relieved and threw well, but the Cambridge offense just didn't have it this series. Andruw was 0-4 with three ks with 9 runners left on base. Bauer came on in the 5th and escaped with only one run allowed, and then allowed a 2RHR to Jeff Cirillo in the 6th to make it 6-0. The Washington defense allowed a couple of unearned runs in the 7th but when you're only getting 3 hits, it's hard to avoid being swept.

MVP - Josh Beckett. A representative of the pitching staff that allowed only 3 earned runs in the series. Offensively, Berkman and McCann each went 5-10, with McCann compiling a 1.483 O+S. However, McCann had only 2 RBI and Berkman none. Bay led the Grays in that category with 5. The Cambridge offense was awful, as befitting a team that only managed 6 runs over 4 games. Washington becomes the first IIBL team to sweep their first 2 playoff series.

Seoul took the early lead on single runs in three of the first four innings: a homer by Miguel Cabrera, a sac fly by Jason Michaels, and a single by Todd Walker. Jacque Jones got the Cougars on the board in the 5th with an RBI single to narrow it to 3-1. After that the Cougars perfected the art of the solo homer: Mauer to narrow it to 3-2 in the 6th, Jones to tie it leading off the 7th, and Scott Hatteberg with the game winner leading off the 8th. Four one hit innings by the Scottsdale bullpen.

Game 3 - Scottsdale at Seoul
Dontrelle Willis (11-9, 1-0) vs Scott Kazmir (9-7,0-1)

Garrett Atkins staked the Cougars to a 2-0 lead with a 2RHR in the first, but Seoul had Mark Ellis. He singled to tie it in the bottom of the frame, and hit a grand slam in the 3rd. Both teams hit lustily and lustily hit into DPs, a combined 8 twin killings. Seoul led 7-3 in the 9th. Rick Helling allowed a triple to Baldelli, and the Fighters went to their closer, Wagner, to face Darryl Ward. He managed an opposite field double down the line, narrowing the score to 7-4. A walk and a hit batter loaded the bases. One out later, Juan Encarnacion singled up the middle scoring two, bringing up Mauer. He lined a double to the opposite field and Scottsdale had the lead. Brett Tomko came in and allowed a 2RHR to Nomar Garciaparra, Up 10-7, Scottsdale survived two hits and a walk taking a 2 game to 1 lead in the series.

Jeff Suppan (15-5, 0-1) vs Oswalt

Oswalt helped his own cause with a two run double in the third, and capped a 4 run third with an RBI single. On the mound, he allowed 2 runs into the seventh inning, and left with a 9-2 lead. The Seoul bullpen, who gave up 7 in the 9th the previous day, had another go at this lead. Jenks got through the 8th and the first two outs of the 9th, and Matt Wise came in to get the last one ahead 10-3. Four batters reached, Wagner came on, and three more batters reached. Finally, Wagner struck out Hatteberg with the tying runs on base. Series tied 2-2.
