Bocomo Vs New Jersey

VS

Game 1 New Jersey at Bocomo
Chien-Ming Wang vs Jake Peavy

It was a well rested Bocomo team that won 8 of 9 in the Fehr Division Series vs a New Jersey team that labored through 2 difficult series. But both starting pitchers were on, getting key outs in key situations. Peavy threw 5 shutout innings stranding 6, and Wang threw six shutout innings getting double plays and picking off a runner when he needed it most. Peavy walked three batters in the sixth, the third forcing in a run. That brought on the Bocomo bullpen, perhaps earlier than they wanted, but they restored order over the next few innings. The bottom of the Blues lineup managed three hits in the seventh, and a Hunter Pence sac fly knotted it at one. That brought on the Patriot bullpen, who was similarly effective. Mariano Rivera struck out the first four batter he faced, starting in the 9th, but Magglio Ordonez doubled with two outs in the 10th. Durham singled, but Rajah Davis' throw to the plate was in time, sending it to the 11th. Scott Proctor didn't have the answer, allowed a single, double (Davis), walk, and grand slam to Polanco (his fourth hit). Torii Hunter added another homer for good measure, as New Jersey drew first blood.

Game 2 New Jersey at Bocomo
Kelvim Escobar vs Jon Garland

A back and forth game saw the Patriots take an early lead, the Blues come back to take the lead, but the Patriots pulling away in the middle innings and winning 8-5. Kelvim Escobar was fortunate giving up only 3 runs (2 earned) in five innings, since he had allowed 7 hits and 6 walks. The Blues left the maximum 8 on base in scoring position over the first four innings, 11 in all. With New Jersey trailing in the 5th, Cabrera walked and went to third on Polanco's hit. A sac fly, and double by Thome, and another sac fly gave the Patriots a 4-3 lead. Polanco doubled home two more in the 6th. Bocomo scored one in the 6th, but left another 2 on (13 over 6 innings now), cutting the lead to 6-4. But Thome and Hunter hit solo homers later as New Jersey took a 2-0 series lead home with them.

Game 3 Bocomo at New Jersey
Derek Lowe vs Joe Blanton

That Polanco fella got a three run homer in the 3rd, and the Patriots pounded Derek Lowe, going up 3 games to none. Troy Glaus led off the scoring with an RBI single in the 2nd and added a solo homer in the 4th, extending the lead to 5-1. Joe Blanton enjoyed the run support and was able to pitch a complete game, marred only by three solo homers. Joe answered that himself, when he launched a 3RHR himself in the bottom of the 7th to punctuate the scoring and arrive at the final 10-3 tally.

Ro
ger Clemens vs Carlos Silva

Patriots loaded the bases with one out in the first and Torii Hunter singled home two. A third was added on an infield out, and Yadier Molina homered in the second. That was all the scoring, as Carlos Silva scattered 4 singles, a double, and two walks over seven innings of work. In the Blues' eighth they loaded the bases with one out, but Ken Griffey struck out and Aramis Ramirez flew out to end their last threat. New Jersey a mild upset winner over the 108 game winning Blues squad, but more shocking - doing it in a sweep. The and scores on a single by Mark Ellis. Series is toed at 2.

MVP: Placido Polanco,   obviously. Check out the line: .647/.684/1.118, 2 home runs, 9 RBIs, game winning grand slam in game one and game breaking 3RHR in game 3. That performance overshadowed otherwise impressive performances by Torii Hunter (2HRs, 6 RBI), Jim Thome (.500/.667/.900), and Yadier Molina (6-13, bo SB allowed). On the pitching side, the Patriots allowed only 9 runs in four games. On the Bocomo side, pretty much a team meltdown. Mark DeRosa went .471/.526/.647 with a home run, but that was his only RBI of the series. Ken Griffey drew the sharpest criticism with his 2-15, zero RBI performance: he came to bat with 19 runners on base.
