Clarkston Crush trades Pavlik
Springfield Homers trades Fryman
Crush long on pitching and pick up a 3B. Pavlik responds with 15 wins for the Homers. But Fryman doesn't last long either. He winds up in Bay City for Canseco and draft picks.

Clarkston Crush trades Portugal + 24th round pick
Bergen Bombers trades Henke + 17th round pick
Bergen may have lost 99 games the year before, but have a lot of extra bullpen. Henke goes to the Crush where he saves 40. Portugal returns to Bergen and wins 15 for the newly christened Storm, 2nd high on the team after Nomo. The Bergen pick turns into Greg Harris, who is later shipped to Sydney for another starter, where he somehow leads the league in saves. Clarkston's pick is Walt Weiss, who becomes the Crush shortstop for a couple of years.

Clarkston Crush trades 27th round pick
Springfield Homers trade Karkovice

Karkovice hits .164 for the Crush, but somebody had to catch. Coomer is the draft pick. He only appears in 7 games, but at least he didn't hit .164.

San Juan Bums trades Hayes & 20th round pick
Springfield Homers trades Drabek & Van Poppel

The new Bums combine to go 11-29. Charlie labors through a .255 season, but at least he doesn't go 11-29. Blair is the pick, and he winds up in BCB as part of the Shane Reynolds trade. Advantage Springfield.

Clarkston Crush trades Klesko
Lake Wobegon Warriors trades Pedro Martinez

The Crush are the first ones to figure out Klesko can't hit lefties. It turns out to be a spectacular trade for the Crush, as Pedro wins a lot of games for them. Klesko will be traded the next year to Taiwan for the other pitching brother Martinez.

Moniave Greenhorns trades Jeff King
Lake Wobegon Warriors trades 21st round pick

King hits 24 homers for the Warriors (Pilots) and Jamie Moyer goes 7-2 for a bad Greenhorn (Stormcloud) team. However, King delivers many clutch hits for the division winners.

Dresden Blacks trades Witt & Jaha
San Juan Bums trades Bonilla

Jaha and Bonilla have about the same stats, but Bonilla has a few more plate appearances. Jaha has no position except to back up McGwire. The Blacks get a league leading RBI performance from Bonilla, playing RF, LF, 1B, and 3B. Jaha doesn't disappoint, hitting .331 with 26 HRs, but he's alone, being intentionally walked a league leading 29 times. Witt goes 8-16, 5.08.

Clarkston Crush trades 22nd & 26th round picks
Montreal Trekkers trades Amaral & Mouton

Amaral gets 50 at bats, Mouton goes in the next trade. Nunnally (the pick) gets 43 ABs. A non-trade.

**** Round 1 of Draft ****

Clarkston Crush trades Cordero & Mouton & 29th round pick
Maine Squeeze trades Blauser & 22nd & 23rd round picks

Cordero has a lot of history with the Crush, but at the end of the day Younk decides his future is limited. They'll do better with Osuna and Tim Worrell. Cordero has a terrible season (.228-5-47) for the Squeeze.

Hana Storm trades Finley, Surhoff, Ritz, 23rd & 29th round picks
Dresden Blacks trades Leiter, Myers, Dykstra, 27th & 28th round picks
Hard to criticize a trade which wins a World Series, but Leiter is brought in to be the #2 pitcher behind Nomo. He wins up 11-11 and then gets traded a year later for Terry Hundley. Meanwhile, Finley and Ritz combine for 68 wins over the next two years. Surhoff also outplays Myers offensively and defensively. And Surhoff begat Hoiles... . Advantage, Dresden.

**** Round 2 of Draft ****

Maine Squeeze trades Clemens and Mabry
San Jose Seals trades Tettleton and Foster

Second bad trade for the Squeeze. Maybe, without Clemens this might make sense.

Madison Mensheviks trades Griffey
Montreal Trekkers trades Brown and 29th round pick

Ken Main, author of the former Playoff Pitch, pulled the trigger on this one. Griffey had just suffered one of those hand injuries, Hal McRae was competing for time in CF, and Kevin Brown was tearing it up. All true, but for Junior? Advantage, Montreal.

Clarkston Crush trades Blauser + 30th round pick
San Juan Bums trades R. McDowell + 34th round pick

McDowell pitches 101 effective innings for the Crush, Blauser gets 19 AB. Bums on the short end.

**** Round 3 of Draft ****

**** Team Name Changes Implemented ****:
Lake Wobegon Warriors -> Bellingham Pilots (BEL)
Oakland Concordes -> Colorado Rockies (COL)
Bergen Bombers -> Hana Storm (HAN)
Moniave Greenhorns -> Seattle Stormclouds (SEA)
Minnesota Blizzard -> Dresden Blacks (DRE)
Catoosa Cops -> Cleveland Cops
Clarkston Crush -> Yukon Crush (YUK)
Dixon Devils -> Sierra Leones (SRL)
Starbuck Mochas -> BayCity Barracudas (BCB)
San Jose Seals -> East Coast Cyclones (CYC)

Storm sends Orlando Miller, Lira
Dodgers sends Mayne, Greg Harris

A more significant trade than first glance. Lira becomes the important #5 starter for the Storm while Harris becomes the Dodgers best reliever, saving 46 games

Crush sends Nixon, Radinsky
Knights send Seitzer, Webster

Nixon plays a platoon role for the Knights, Radinsky is twice protected (!) (Maybe he was a parrot in a previous life?) Seitzer hits .316 with 48 doubles for the Crush, who get the better end of this trade.

Storm sends Crabtree
Blacks sends Baldwin

Blacks still short a reliever for the pennant chase, Baldwin a marginal protect. Crabtree justifies the trade with two strong seasons, Baldwin toils as a midlevel Hana starter.

Homers send Baerga & Blair
Barracudas send Gates & Reynolds

Baerga starts his grand tour. First to Bay City, where they have hopes of a pennant chase. Reynolds has a disappointing season for the Homers (8-13, 5.30), Baerga plays well for the Barracudas, but the team falters midway, and then goes on to the Storm, where he gets his ring. Gates has a reasonable season sharing time with Rex Hudler. Slight advantage for the Homers.

Blacks send Carter, Russell, Lewis
Homers send Mieske, Belinda

Carter the lure for the future (!), having hit 25 homers at the all-star break. However, he slumps badly, and the Homers wind up with nothing to show for Belinda, who saves 35 games for the division winning Blacks.

Crush sends Fryman, Hill, 25th, and 29th round picks
Barracudas send Canseco, Hasleman, 17th, and 19th round picks

Certainly a winner for the Crush. Canseco provides power off the bench for a couple of years, and the draft picks (the next year) turn out to be Naulty and Macfarlane, keys in the 1996 division champs. Fryman's defense doesn't quite make up for his .251average with 12 HRs and his 116Ks.

**** Period 5 ****

Storm sends Garret Anderson, Mark Lewis, 20th round pick
Barracudas send Alex Gonzalez, Carlos Baerga, 13th round pick

Craig Hayes in a self-destruct phase. The trade of Baerga an admission they were too far behind the Blacks, but the trade of Gonzalez and the 13th round pick (Mel Rojas the year after) was at the end of the day just wrong. We should note that Mark Lewis was already at limit for 1995, and was a future pick only.

Crush sends Tim Worrell
Barracudas send Frank Castillo

Good trade for the Cudas, picking up a useful player for the next year, for someone who wouldn't be.

Crush sends Paco Martin, 22nd round pick
Homers send Kent Mercker, 34th round pick

Crush looking for pitching down the stretch, but it fails. Mercker goes a credible 7-7, but the Pilots pass them anyway. Springfield gets Jeff Nelson with the pick.

Rosehaven defeats Bellingham 4 games to 2
