World Series Summary
New Jersey, a mild underdog going into the series, took it to the 108 game winning Blues, sweeping the four game series. The Patriots become the 6th different Miller Conference to win the World Series in six years. Placido Polanco was named the MVP.
Fehr Conference Championship Update
Bocomo swept Seoul First, two walkoff hits: Edgar Renteria in the 9th inning in game one and Magglio Ordonez in the 12th inning in game 2. Then, two blowouts: 7-2 and 8-1. Blues average 14.25 hits per game as Seoul's celebrated pitching staff collapses.
Miller Conference Championship Update
New Jersey defeated Dresden 4 games to 2 behind the hitting heroics of Torii Hunter and Troy Glaus, and a strong bullpen performance led by Mariano Rivera. It is the first World Series appearance for either Bocomo or New Jersey.
Miller Division Playoff Update
Two years ago, Dresden led Cambridge three games to none in the conference championships, and went completely flat scoring just seven runs in losing the last four games. This year, the Blacks snuck into the playoffs by winning their last six games (nipping the defending champions Washington who had won their last seven games). The Blacks avenged the loss, taking Cambridge 4 games to one, winning three 3-2 games (and another game which was 3-2 in the late stages).
New Jersey came from behind to win their playoff series in seven games, surviving two walkoff home runs in the middle games. Chien-Ming Wang pitched the key game, a 6-2 win over Brandon Webb in the 6th game with the Patriots down 3 games to 2.
Fehr Division Playoff Update
Bocomo was one out away from a sweep of Scottsdale in round one, but Joe Mauer singled to tie game 4 and Garrett Anderson homered to lead off the home 10th. Bocomo made no mistake the following day, building a 7 run lead going into the bottom of the 9th and prevailing 10-7. They advance to face...
Seoul has won two extra inning games from Galway in building a 2-1 series lead over the Galleons. Halladay and Kazmir then pitched strongly in games 4 and 5 and the Fighters advance to the Fehr Conference championships for the third straight year.
Season Finishes with 4 way tie for final playoff spot
Congratulations to the Scottsdale Cougars who survived a four team single elimination play-in for the last playoff spot in the Fehr Division. Seoul qualified in the last period by taking one of three games from Bellingham to finish at 84-78, one game ahead of the quartet at 83-79.
In the play-in, Scottsdale found themselves down 3-0 in the 9th inning to Santa Clara, with Erik Bedard tossing a 4-hitter. Despite the unavailability of Leopardo closer Joaquin Soria, Angel Guzman started the ninth to close down the Cougars. After a double and a walk, Cla Meredith came on, but Frank Thomas, Moises Alou, and Jacque Jones all singled and the game was tied. Tommy Watkins singled for the lead, Scottsdale added an insurance run and Trevor Hoffman picked up his IIBL record 414th career save. Meanwhile, Camano Island, behind Felix Hernandez, bested Madiba 2-1.
In the final playoff game, C.C. Sabathia made no mistake about winning his 21st, as Scottsdale led 11-0 going into the bottom of the 9th.
Individual Honors
Fielder's teammate, Magglio Ordonez now has the all-time single season batting mark at .38694, surpassing the 2000 effort of Nomar Garciaparra (Nashua) at .38682. It was Carolina's Jack Cust who won the OB% lead with a .477 mark, 8th all time.
On the pitching front, Detroit's Brandon Webb and Bocomo's Jake Peavy matched each other all year, finishing at 22-3 and 22-4. C.C. Sabathia finished 21-9 including the playoff clinching in for the Cougars, and Brad Penny won 20 for Duluth. Sabathia edged Peavy by 268 to 267 to win the strikeout title, while Peavy won the ERA title handily at 2.30 (Webb was fourth). Dresden's J.J. Putz eclipsed all with 38 saves in 40 chances, only Blowing two in consecutive games to Detroit late in the season.
